Royal Pains
Bulma had long since lost track of just how many times she had been called away from her work and research just to come in and fix the new gravity chamber she had just invented. If the prince of all saiyans would start treating her equipment with a little respect, she might not be so irked. He didn't like being forced to put his training on pause because of a malfunction (in the form of a hole blown into the chamber wall) any more than she enjoyed being yanked from her station to come and fix it. Unlike everyone else, she didn't bow or kiss ass when she was around Vegeta. She definitely wasn't afraid to get in his face and yell just as loud, if not louder, than him.
"You really did a number on it this time. It's not a simple fix. I'm going to need a couple of days to repair the damage and sort out the gravity settings." She remarked with a sharp, annoyed tone to her voice. Leaning over the edge of the panel, the blue haired saiyan looked utterly disgusted at the exposed wires and broken bits of paneling. Bulma had been born with a power level high enough to put her in the elite saiyan status, but instead of becoming a warrior, she chose to devote her time to more scientific matters. It was a real scandal back in the day, but since then she had produced some very useful technology such as the gravity chamber Vegeta seemed so fond of using. Since she created it, she was the only one who could fix it.
"This chamber wasn't designed for your extreme rise in power level over the last couple of months, but we'll have to keep patching it up until I have the time and resources to build another one."

Of course, if anyone else on the planet said anything like that, they'd soon find themselves in serious danger from said prince, but that wasn't the point.]
It's not my fault your pathetic machinery cannot keep up with my power. Fix it and then get to work building a new one- something halfway decent if it isn't too difficult.
no subject
Do you even know how much time and effort goes into building something like this? No, of course you don't. It'll take months to do what you've asked.
[Not to mention it would yank her away from about ten other projects she was already working on. Vegeta, as usual, only saw as far was what effected him]
Of course if I do make another one, I might be able to raise the gravity to 200.
[And just like that, she was suddenly a little less unhappy about his order. Most saiyans relished the opportunity of a challenge in battle. Bulma wasn't so different, she just preferred a challenge that involved more of a mental work out]
no subject
He quickly shook his head to dispel the thought and glared again.]
You should be honoured to serve your prince, woman. I don't care what it takes, make it happen. I must become a Super Saiyan. Or do you think you're not up to the challenge?
[200 times gravity sounded fantastic.]

[She never could quite curb that tongue or temper of hers. It had gotten her into trouble before, but never with Vegeta. That's what kept her honest with him. He could back hand her, punch her, kick her ass if he wanted to, but he never did.
She went completely stiff when he implied she couldn't meet his expectations. Oh, that was the right button to push for once]
I'm going to need access to stronger materials.
[She said as she finally turned to face him, the same sort of gleam in her eyes that betrayed her saiyan drive to excel expectations]
You'd just better hope you don't kill yourself tinkering around with that kind of gravity output. You're the only heir, after all.
no subject
[Apparently there are some benefits to having a royal patron. And if Bulma slips in a few requests for materials for her other projects he probably won't even notice. He ignores the first bit (of course she should be honoured) but his eye twitches a bit at the last.]
Don't remind my father of that. He complains enough as it is.
[Which Vegeta has no sympathy for because if someone hadn't sent his little brother away as a toddler it wouldn't be a problem.]
no subject
She caught that twitch. Oh, so the prince had a sore spot there. She'd just add that to the long list of his ticks she had discovered. Smirking, she had the audacity to wag her finger in his face]
You're not a young pup anymore, Vegeta. You should get a mate. It might be good for you to focus on something other than training and gaining super saiyan status.
[She herself had no interest in children or a mate, so she understood where he was coming from, but she had to tease him about it]
no subject
[Oh, this is just what he needs. Bad enough his father keeps lecturing him, he doesn't need Bulma getting in on it. Or using it as fodder for teasing him.]
I have no interest or time for that and I don't want any distractions! My training is far more important. Besides, all of his suggestions are insufferable.
[Vegeta, you think everyone is insufferable.]
no subject
Huh, I guess I know what you mean. I've had offers, but they're all from low levels looking to use my status to boost theirs. Hell, even Kakarot's brother made an offer.
[Which was actually offensive to her. She wasn't a warrior, but that didn't mean she had to stoop that low]
no subject
For a moment Vegeta is frozen in place, consumed by rage and scrambling to suppress the urge to just fly in a direct line towards where Raditz is now, destroying everything in his path until the low level idiot is dead. He wishes the feeling was a foreign one, not out of any fondness for Raditz but because he knows exactly what the real cause is. The last thing he wants is for Bulma to realise what it is.]
Gk... Tch...
[It is really hard not to fly off and kill Raditz right now.]
no subject
You getting pissed off too? I was pretty mad when he offered.
[Woah, probably time to switch to another conversation]
You don't have to mate with whoever your dad suggests. I'm pretty sure the choice is yours, not his. I mean you've got to at least tolerate the woman, whoever she is.
no subject
[Yeah, the last thing he cares about now is his father, King Vegeta can't really do shit to him beyond the occasional guilt trip about how much he'd love a strong grandchild. Good luck changing the subject, Bulma.]
... You're not allowed to accept any of those offers. I forbid it.
[NOT YOUR CALL, VEGETA]
no subject
This? This was borderline - ]
Excuse me? Who I may or may not decide to mate with is completely out of your realm of control, Vegeta.
[There's another agitated flick of her tail]
And why would you even care? Unless you want me for yourself?
no subject
[When has that ever worked, Vegeta? Yeah, he realised that was a stupid thing to say the second it came out of his mouth but it's too late to back down now. Maybe he'll just have to kill every saiyan bachelor on the planet to be safe.]
In your dreams! My training equipment should be your top priority and you're already distracted by all your other work! You do not need another distraction!
[S-see, he's just worried about your lab work, Bulma... That's it...]
no subject
[Bulma was suddenly shouting at him. It happened so fast she couldn't stop herself from blurting that out. Vegeta did that to her. Flipped a switch that made her see red every time he was being an arrogant ass.
As for his logic, well she couldn't fault him there. Her plate was completely full at the moment, but it didn't matter. She had never entertained any serious thought on the matter of obtaining a mate. In fact she was kind of baffled about how this whole conversation had flipped to her choices in mating material]
That's what you're all worked up about? It's not that complicated these days. I had a sample of my eggs frozen years ago. IVF is becoming pretty popular with female saiyans these days. Especially women away on missions all the time. Not time consuming at all and once the kid is born they're mostly shipped off world anyway.
[No point in getting attached to a child you'd most likely never see again]
no subject
Fuck, he's losing it. What are they even talking about. How did this happen. He hadn't even really thought about Bulma having someone else's child until she just brought it up, it was the thought of any other man laying a hand on her at all that filled him with rage. Though he wasn't crazy about the former either.
But...] ... You really don't want a mate?
[That's... a relief. That gives him time. Perhaps a little disappointing, but not really.]
no subject
[She had a healthy opinion of herself, that's for certain and while she hadn't given it much though, she definitely wanted a strong elite level mate. There weren't a lot of them (any any that she knew of) clamoring for her attention]
Anyway, like you said my plate is pretty full.
[She kinda of wanted someone like Vegeta. No, actually if she was honest with herself, Vegeta would be perfect. He was definitely strong. Kinda smart too when he put his mind to strategic matters. The fact that he was royalty didn't hurt either]
no subject
[Relaxes at that. Yes, Bulma is far too good for the likes of low level scum like Raditz- or rather, she had far more important work to do. This was obviously her way of following his orders while keeping her pride by pretending she wasn't. For sure.
Vegeta takes a few steps back to lean against the wall.] Then you can focus on what's actually important and get to work.
no subject
Right now, she decided to get to work on the busted gravity chamber. Leaving momentarily to retrieve some tools, she set to work. Fixing the panel came first and since she was tucked away inside the chamber, she didn't hear King Vegeta enter. In fact, she didn't notice him until she walked out and to the side of the chamber to start patching up the hole he'd blown into the wall.
She was so caught up in her work she didn't notice King Vegeta watching his son stare at her. So it wasn't just the new training technology that had consumed Vegeta's attention.
She glanced up when the two of them left the room to speak, but swiftly resumed her work. This wasn't going to get fixed in one day, plenty of stuff needed to be recalibrated.
Wiping the sweat off her brow, her saiyan armor dotted in dust, dirt, and other assorted black fluids, she finally gave up for the day. Just in time to hear the door open]
Alright. I've done what I can today. I might get this fixed tomorrow or by the next day. Depends on how much damage you dealt the gravity systems.
no subject
Finish it now!
[Gritting his teeth and glaring at the wall. How dare he? Making assumptions, daring to tell him what to do- "Your brother was an embarrassment enough. Your son must be a warrior, with fighting spirit. Don't waste your time on her, her children won't be fit to be saiyan royalty." How dare he?
Vegeta growls, glaring at the wall.]
Arrogant, sanctimonious bastard!
no subject
[What the hell was with Vegeta's storm of emotions today? He wasn't usually this hot or cold]
Don't take out your daddy issues on me. I'll be working all night into the morning if you want this finished.
[She wanted to go back to her other projects, but it was looking like Prince asshole wasn't going to let her]
What did he say to get you this worked up?
no subject
[Now Vegeta's the one with his tail whipping back and forth behind him as he fights the urge to hit the wall or something. Yeah, you're not getting out of this, Bulma, someone has to bare witness to his rage and you're the closest thing he has to a friend.]
How dare he tell me what to do? And bringing Tarble into it, of all people! Like he knows a damn thing about anything!
no subject
None of my businesses, but you still want to vent and fume in my direction. I'd say it's my business when you make it my business. Was he pestering you about getting an heir or something?
[It was a logical assumption given their previous topic of conversation had gotten him a bit worked up]
Whatever he said, must've been a direct shot to your pride to get you this worked up.
no subject
I don't like being told what to do.
[Or what not to do.]
This is my decision! It doesn't affect him in any way! He has nothing to do with it- [Well, as King, he might have a little to do with it] and if I do choose a mate it will be based on whatever criteria I decide!
no subject
Alright, you're all worked up.
[She moved to a fighting stance after snapping her gloves into place. It was probably laughable to him]
I'm going to give you the distinct honor of sparring with me, since the gravity chamber is down. We'll vent some of that frustration.
no subject
... You're joking. [Bulma's no weakling, but Vegeta is much stronger, even when he isn't feeling particularly arrogant.] I'd crush you.
