this is what it takes to get a visit from dad apparently
[It's kind of convenient how mysterious portals connecting different timelines started opening up just as Trunks' timeline came under attack from some bizarre, stupidly powerful, alien dragons. Convenient that Vegeta happened to jump through one at the right moment to help his alternate timeline son out, for sure.
Inset generic DBZ movie battle sequence here- oh wait, Goku and Gohan didn't make it. Well, Vegeta and Trunks still manage to finish the fight somehow, without Son "Kill Steal" Goku there to save the day.]

[Vegeta fires his most powerful attack at the last, most powerful enemy, hopeful that will finally bring the battle to a close. There's the kind of horrendous explosion you'd expect, at least. In fact, he doesn't really mind at all, though there's the whole worry regarding the 'messing of the timelines' with traveling through time but hey, they'll worry about that later.
Even with the androids and Cell having been defeated here, he still kept up with his training, the only warrior here to protect the people and the planet. But these guys, these dragon-type aliens, they're a little out of his league but nothing that he and his father can't handle.
And so it comes as no surprise when Vegeta fires that trademark attack of his, sending dust and debris every which way to the point where Trunks has to shield his face with his arms; leave it to Vegeta to make a big show of crushing his enemies.
It's only when the dust begins to settle that he drops his arms away from his face - still in Super Saiyan mode - and glances down to see if they're actually in the clear. When it seems like they are, he slowly smiles, feeling proud of his father and the fact that they had fought side by side without the typical awkward moments between them where he tries to help his father and his father rebuffs him, usually with a punch or kick.
Must be a pride thing. Or a Vegeta thing. Or both. ]
You did it, dad!
[ But his smile is short-lived when he catches a ping of movement behind him. It's not the most powerful of the enemies they fought, one of the weaker ones actually (though still on the quick side), but he must have slipped past them somehow.
Their movements are more like a blur in mid-air as Trunks blocks the attack that's meant for him and grabs at the other's wrists to prevent any further attacks. He grins then as the other struggles, grip tightening on those wrists. ]
You know... if my father wasn't here, you guys might have stood a better chance.
[ And it's with that, that Trunks blasts the creature right there in front of him, disintegrating it much like Frieza had been once upon a time in the past. Of course, this guy didn't get chopped up into tiny pieces but well, that was special for Frieza.
A sigh, he drops himself down to the ground then. ]

Speaking of which, when Vegeta sees the last enemy attempt to attack Trunks he has to resist the protective urge to fly over and intervene. He manages it pretty quick and he's glad he does when he sees Trunks completely destroy the creature. Proud of you, boy, even if it doesn't show on Vegeta's face.]
You shouldn't be relying on your father to rush to your rescue in the first place, boy. [Walking over, still in Super Saiyan form, eyeing the few remains of the creatures scattered about.] You should be strong enough to manage weaklings like these on your own.

A glance over to his father, he sighs some. ]
Thanks for the tip, dad. [ No, there isn't sarcasm in his tone. This time. ] I guess it's a good thing you showed up when you did.
[ As more of the smoke clears, he takes another look around, wanting to ensure that they're in the clear and that there aren't any others lurking around and waiting for an opportune moment to strike like the one he dealt with. ]
But I sort of have to wonder how and why.
[ Because, you know, it's not every day he gets a visit from the past of all places. Usually, he's the time traveler of the family. ]

I'm serious, Trunks, you can't afford to be lax in your training now. [However hard Trunks has been training since Cell's defeat, he should know that it's not enough. Nothing will ever be enough for Vegeta.] I know you can do better than that. [A compliment?? Maybe???]
As for how and why I'm here... [Sigh. He doesn't even know.] Those... portals or whatever they are have been opening and closing all day. I heard your voice through one and followed it.
[Because rash decision making is the best kind. These things usually work themselves out.]

But, you know, it's nice to hear it sometimes. Even in Vegeta's way of going about it.
Still, he can't help but smile some at his father, allowing golden blond hair to fall back to soft lavender. ]
Yeah, I noticed those but I didn't really think to actually jump through one. [ Apparently that's Vegeta's job. ] Man, I don't even know why they're popping up or where they're leading to. I mean, one brought you here but who knows where all the others might lead.
[ Brows furrow some as he turns and gazes off in the distance towards one. They had been appearing throughout the day and he had come out to investigate them when those alien-type things appeared. Were they to blame? Were they using those portals to move around? ]
If you can come through one, then who knows who or what else could.

... Seemed the best way to figure out what the things did. [That was the only reason he jumped through. The only one.] They might just be connecting our two timelines, but it's difficult to know if it's the case for all of them. [And leaping through them at random seems. Stupidly reckless, considering how lucky Vegeta was to end up here.]
But I doubt they're unconnected to those idiot creatures.

But his being happy seeing his father from another timeline is short-lived as he reaches around to his back pocket and pulls out a device that his mother, no doubt, put together. It looks similar to a dragon ball radar (not that that's any good for him with Piccolo dead and all) but a little on the smaller side. A few pushes of the buttons at the top of the device, he turns his attention off towards that other portal he had been looking at, only to see it close. ]
Man, it's difficult to really get a reading on them or figure out how they're appearing like this. The fact that they're so infrequent and their longevity varies isn't helping much either.
[ ...Well, he is Bulma's son, ok? There's more to him than the whole turning Super Saiyan thing. Who else is going to help his mother repair things when they end up broken? ]
Mom thought it might be something to do with my going back in time. [ His face falls for a moment at that. Repercussions were also a risk he knew he had to take back then. ] Maybe it tore a rift in one of the timelines somewhere and now things are spilling through. It would make sense if they're appearing in your timeline as well since that's where I traveled to...
[ A sigh, he pockets the device and looks over to his father then. ]
How many of these have appeared in your timeline? Just the one? Or have there been more?

[And then her husband fucking jumped through one. Vegeta's eye twitches slightly at the mention of Future Bulma.]
If those creatures arrived here the same way I did, the rifts likely aren't restricted to Earth. What a mess.

[ If the rifts were open to beings from other planets, let alone other universes, it would be a bit of a problem if they happened to be on the 'let's destroy this world and take it over for ourselves' side such as Frieza or Cell.
Brows furrowed, he looks to his father when they've more or less assessed the situation concerning these portals, something else on his mind. ]
Getting you back to your time might require the time machine since we can't really be sure with where these portals lead to and I'm not about to have you end up in some other universe or timeline.
[ Because he's always fought to ensure that the younger version of himself had his father in his life, something he would give anything for in his timeline. ]

Their relationship is forever a complicated one, even if it's more on the tamer side now. He can't even begin to understand the possible conflict of emotions Vegeta must feel between his own son back in his timeline and him in this one. To have two versions of ones son... sort of like when he was around his mother back in the other timeline.
It's... just complicated.
At the question, he glances up, a bit of a smile tugging at his lips. Well, this is about to get a little more complicated. ]
No, I don't. I didn't exactly expect to see you and have to get you back to your timeline.
[ So yeah, seeing his mother might have to happen. Sorry, Vegeta. ]

[Vegeta makes things complicated for everyone around him just by existing, it's great. It's actually all pretty simple for him though- there's Trunks and then there's Trunks and they're both his sons but the younger one probably needs him around a bit more. Simple. And because it's simple, Vegeta has no desire to think about it any further than that and make it complicated.
Bringing Bulma into it though... That does make things a little more complicated.]

[ Teasing, maybe a little in an attempt to lighten the situation some, he smiles over to Vegeta. ]

[ Because he can't say that he's not curious given how much time has passed since he last visited their timeline. ]

With Vegeta not wanting to come back to Capsule Corp here in his timeline, he slowly begins to drift away from the ground and up into the sky, glancing off in the direction of home. ]
Listen, I can go and grab the time machine from back home if you want. That way, you don't have to see mom and I don't have to explain how and why you're here.
[ Although, somehow he gets the feeling that she'll berate him either way for all of this, even though it's not as if he personally invited his father to his timeline. But, you know, Bulma.
A pause, he looks back to the prince of saiyans. ]
Unless you want to check the area out for a bit and see if anything else comes through one of those.
