Terrifying Character Survey - Tomata
APPEARANCE AND BODY PERCEPTION① Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?Around 5'4" and muscular, but not in a heavyset sort of way.
② How old is she?Twenty one Earth years old.
③ Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well, or does she slouch?Very good posture. Almost weirdly so. Whenever she's still she stands straight with her hands by her sides, and she very rarely slouches. Always ready to move into attack mode.
④ How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?Currently very healthy and fit! But when she was a child she was really ill from some weird alien sickness that attacked her throat and lungs. She was bedridden for a long time and couldn't talk. Eventually she recovered but it's why her power was playing catch up when she was older (as strong as Raditz when she first got recruited, but quickly getting stronger). It's also why she doesn't talk much now, her throat has healed but she spent so long unable to it just feels weird to speak now. She has to make a conscious effort to talk out loud.
⑤ How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? She's a martial artist so she's very good at moving around! Graceful and quick on her feet. But she can be a bit tense and doesn't go much for the more fluid fighting styles unless she's deliberately trying someone else's technique. She's very sturdy and well balanced.
⑥ How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror? She's very pretty! A cute face and a cute body. Tomata isn't very concerned with her looks though and is pretty neutral when it comes to her face.
⑦ Describe her complexion: dark, light, clear, scarred?Light skin, resembling chinese like most saiyans. She doesn't have many visible scars due to saiyan healing and the Time Patrol's healing technology.
⑧ Describe her hair: color, texture, style.Tomata's hair is short, just above her shoulders, and black! It's pretty normal saiyan hair. Spiky, thick, strong and soft at the touch. She keeps it pretty clean. When she turns Super Saiyan it becomes blond, but doesn't change it's shape much.
⑨ What color are her eyes?Green! This is weird for a saiyan and something Tomata's actually self-conscious about. Most people in the know would assume she was a half-breed, but she's not! It's just a weird, random mutation like Krillen's lack of nose. There is seriously no deeper explanation for it. Tomata doesn't have any problems with people with mixed blood, saiyan or otherwise, but she gets a little annoyed when people make assumptions about her parentage based on her eyes. Both her parents were saiyans, damnit!
⑩ Does the character have any other noteworthy features? She has one weird scar on her lower back, where her tail used to be.
⑪ What are her chief tension centers?Shoulders.
⑫ What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?CLOTHES Tomata loves clothes. Her one girly weakness. It's less being fashionable and more like hoarding though. Tomata collects any and all clothes she can get her hands on and most of her salary goes towards them. If you let her into your room, check your wardrobe to make sure she hasn't "borrowed" anything. Her wardrobe is full of clothes she never wears. On a day to day basis she usually just wears either saiyan armour or her elite patroller uniform, because she's fighting so often. But whenever she gets around to trying on one of her other outfits she gets really excited. Clothes are so exciting! If you wanna show her a good time but don't want to fight her, take her clothes shopping. She'll love you forever.
One consistent thing is that she nearly always wears a green scouter while on Patrol. She's gotten better at sensing energy, but she still relies on it a lot for when she's not in the thick of fighting. It's also how Trunks talks to her and she likes hearing his voice even if she's not paying much attention to what he's saying.
⑬ Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them? For some reason, Tomata hardly ever has trouble finding clothes in her size... She gets so excited by clothes she looks comfortable in just about anything, because even stuff that isn't her usual style or easy to wear is!! new!! clothes!!
⑭ Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences? When she's not fighting she can experiment with her clothes more often... She still tends to default to her uniform most of the time, because she does love it a lot, but you shouldn't be surprised for her to be wearing some random other outfit if you see her on her day off. Tomata, where did you even get a school uniform? Does Videl know you have her Great Saiyagirl costume? Wait, Tomata, those are my clothes! And etc.
⑮ You knew it was coming: boxers, briefs, or commando? She wears black shorts and a strapless sports bra thing under her clothes, I guess that's her underwear. They're made of similar elastic material to saiyan bodysuits, but they're not nearly as strong.
SPEECH① What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?I think I went with female voice 3 for Tomata! A little rough and not very high-pitched, but obviously a girls voice. That said, Tomata doesn't talk much, as I mentioned before! When she does, she tends to speak quietly and softly, unless she's shouting an attack.
② How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate? In battle she'll yell her attacks and grunt and go HAH! and all that, because she's learned to fight that way from her masters. But in normal conversation she... doesn't talk. Her default mode is to stay quiet, which is useful on Time Patrol because it means she doesn't give much away about who she is or what her actual motivations are. When she does talk, she speaks slowly and hesitantly and is usually pretty quiet. She'll be more willing to speak with people she's comfortable with, like Trunks and a few of the other Time Patrollers. With them she can occasionally enjoy speaking, but usually it makes her feel rather anxious. She really likes listening to people talk though and she's not shy! She just wishes people understood her facial expressions and hand gestures more fluently.
③ Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? Not really! At least, none you'd notice. Her nervous sounds or "I'm not sure what to say" sounds are... silence. The closest she gets is when she's grunting and shouting during battle.
④ What language(s) does she speak and with how much fluency?Languages in Dragonball... She knows the saiyan language, though it's probably very Ye Olde Saiyan because of her backstory, and is more comfortable in that! But she understands the language everyone in Dragonball speaks.
⑤ Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations? She's quieter (even more so than usual) when she's on the job or with people she doesn't know so well. With Trunks and the Supreme Kai of Time, she'll speak up a little more often and answer questions verbally but they also don't push her to do so (which she appreciates).
⑥ Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?Oh, boy...
⑦ Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?I wonder... Okay I can adapt this question. Tomata is very quiet out of habit most of the time, but when she's pushed into speaking or in a stressful situation, she actually has something similar to a panic attack and goes mute. So even less articulate than usual!
EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL① How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?Street-smart! Tomata is a very smart fighter and pretty intelligent normally.
② Does she think on his feet, or does she need time to deliberate? She thinks on her feet. Tomata leaves most of the planning and big thinking to the Supreme Kai of Time and Trunks, she trusts them to be smart and point her in the right direction to punch things. If she disagrees with them about something, she's inclined to go along with whatever their plan is over her own. But in situations on patrol where she has to adjust the plan or react to something new, she's pretty good at dealing with things on her own!
③ Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? She's pretty idealistic and inclined to follow her gut. She trusts her friends, she believes in her own ability to handle her opponents and she trusts her instincts. She also believes in sticking to her ideals and doing what feels right.
④ What kind of education has the character had?She learned the basics in fighting by just existing in saiyan society before joining the Time Patrol. Once she arrived in Toki Toki City, she was introduced to a bunch of different fighting masters that took her under their wings to teach her one on one. She really enjoyed it! Other than that, nothing much beyond basic maths, reading and writing.
⑤ What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?Fighting! Tomata's real talent and strength is learning new techniques. She has an incredible memory for them and is great at quickly learning new ones from whoever her master is. Sometimes she can even pick them up just by watching her opponents in battle. It's pointed out by several of her masters that she's brilliant in that regard and it's what makes her really formidable. She also really enjoys learning new attacks! Her favourite is Instant Transmission because it is ridiculously useful.
Tomata's also really impressed by Trunks' scientific knowledge and likes listening to him talk about nerd shit. She doesn't understand half of it, but she thinks it's really cool that he does.
⑥ Is she an introvert or an extrovert?Probably introverted.
⑦ Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered, or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholic? Laid-back or driven?Mostly cheerful and even-tempered, Tomata is usually pretty laid back. She keeps a pretty stoic front though. It's difficult to annoy her, but a surefire way to do so is to threaten the people she cares about. During the Android sagas when Tomata realises Trunks is still in danger, Towa points out that she's "gotten a rise out of you" and Tomata snaps, trying to attack Towa out of anger.
⑧ How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?Tomata likes meeting new people, they might be really strong! She'll greet them enthusiastically and listen to whatever they have to say eagerly.
⑨ Is she more likely to act or to react?Act. She's a hero!
⑩ Which is her default: fight or flight?Fight for sure. She's not above running when priorities come up (or when her opponent is a little too scary for even her) but she's a saiyan through and through. She loves fighting.
⑪ Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? She likes puns when other people tell them! Gallows humor is fine by her too. Obvious telling jokes doesn't come naturally to her, but with her friends she might occasionally surprise them by piping up with something. Otherwise pranks and quiet teasing are up her alley.
⑫ Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If so, how does she deal with them?I'm not sure if she has any specific MI, but like I mentioned above she can go selectively mute on occasion when under stress.
⑬ What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person? Her illness as a child, seeing Goku go Super Saiyan on Namek and being killed by Demigra.
⑭ What does she fear?Losing the Time Patrol and the people she cares about within it. Being constantly forgotten by the people she's protecting while on patrol gets to her, but it also comes from losing her home planet. Sad backstory.
⑮ What are her hopes or aspirations? To become the greatest warrior in the universe! She wants to get stronger than even Beerus!
⑯ What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?She doesn't like people knowing about her illness as a child much. She knows people like Trunks won't be disgusted by her being weak in the past like other saiyans might, but she still doesn't want him pitying her.
RELATIONSHIPS① Describe this character's relationship with her parents.Tomata was very close to her parents! They were good people and loved her very much. When she was little, she was so seriously ill that her parents had to take care of her and they were very kind to her. This taught her to value kindness and be a good person, unlike... most saiyans. They took care of her while she was sick but they also protected her from other people that wanted to kill her for being weak. Tomata was born during the period in saiyan history mentioned in Battle of Gods; right after the Super Saiyan God was a thing and saiyans decided to start killing those among them that were pure of heart for some reason. This is way back in the distant past, before saiyans even migrated to Planet Plant.
② Does the character have any siblings? What is their relationship like?Nope!.
③ Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?Just her parents.
④ Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?Since arriving in Toki Toki City, she considers the Time Patrol her new family. Trunks and the Supreme Kai of Time particularly, but also all the other NPCs there.
⑤ Who is the character's best friend? How did they meet?Trunks! He made a wish on the dragonballs and Tomata appeared! She admires him for his brains and his strength, but also just enjoys spending time with him. He's the person she's most comfortable speaking to and also the person most important to her. Apparently she gives him hope... He's a nerd. But she loves him anyway.
⑥ Does she have other close friends?Apparently Hakusa is her new underling and she likes her a lot, they train together sometimes. She respects Percel and he gives her advice. Pima is one of the few other pure blooded saiyans around, so she made a big effort to be friends with him that he... apparently missed all together. She likes Taino as a person though, so she's glad they're close now. Obviously the Supreme Kai of Time is also a close friend!
Tomata also thinks of the people she meets while on Patrol as her friends. Goku, Gohan and Krillin in particular. The fact that they forget about her as soon as she leaves the timeline actually gets to her a lot, but she tries not to let it show.
⑦ Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?Depends whether or not she's attacking them... When Tomata shows up to fight on someone's side, they usually have no problem realising she's a friend and she seems to make a good impression for the most part. She's good at impressing people with her fighting ability and people seem to like her okay! That said her silence can weird people out and some people make assumptions about her that aren't conductive to making friends. Pima is a good example of her not making friends easily, despite her best efforts. First impressions aren't her strong suit, but eventually her actions prove her worth and by now everyone in the Time Patrol is on her side.
⑧ Which does she consider more important: family or friends?I doubt she's ever considered it. Now her parents are dead she only has friends, so- friends?
⑨ Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?Single, never been in a relationship before.
⑩ Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?Nope. I swear Trunks has a crush on her, but she's mostly oblivious to it if he does.
⑪ Who was her first crush? Who is her latest? She gets excited about strong people, which is like a crush?? Mira is her rival so that's... something. She might have a crush on Trunks, but in her head she just classifies him as someone important.
⑫ What does she look for in a romantic partner?A strong guy! No, she doesn't think about it much but if she did she'd want someone she could be comfortable with, who didn't push her into speaking or be put off by her silence. They'd have to be strong though, and she'd also like someone really smart.
⑬ Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If so, how does she relate to them? If not, does she want any?No kids! No plans to have any either, but she could warm up to the idea if something happened. There are only so many saiyans left, does she have a responsibility to continue her race?
⑭ Does she have any rivals or enemies?OOOH yes... Luckily most of her enemies forget her once she finishes Patrol. But there's also Mira, Towa and Demigra. She actually doesn't hate Mira, despite herself. He's so strong, she can't help but like him! She kind of regrets killing him and disagrees with Trunks about him being the real threat and Towa being harmless. Tomata doesn't like Towa at all and thinks she's much more dangerous than Mira because of her magic, plus she's obviously the one in charge. At first she wasn't too fussed by her, but when Towa tried to wipe Trunks out of existence, she got really mad. Now she's just wary about her, she feels bad for her because she lost Mira but also... Don't kill Trunks, girl.
Demigra, on the other hand, was a BIG threat. Tomata was actually a little scared by him but mostly angry! He nearly destroyed her new home! He possessed Trunks! He killed her! She was super determined to kill him and doesn't regret it at all.
⑮ What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey Scale?Bisexual, about a 3.
⑯How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?Tomata doesn't think about sex much most of the time, it's not super important to her. But she's not against the idea and occasionally she'll be surprised to find herself... very distracted.
Trunks is pretty, okay?
⑰ What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?FIGHTING no umm... She's too inexperienced to really be sure what her turn-ons are, but she likes pretty hair and strong people. Fancy clothes could also get her attention, but I don't know if it's actually a turn on.
Fighting actually probably does count.
BELIEFS① Do you know your character's astrological sign? How well does she fit type?Space monkey means she doesn't have anything like that.
② Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?Tomata lives a lot of saiyan religion, what with being a Super Saiyan and seeing someone become the Super Saiyan God. She's also personal friends with two actual Gods. So a lot of religion has lost it's glamour for her. But she knows all the old saiyan stories and being from the past, they're a much stronger part of her culture than they were for, say, Vegeta. She's also very in tune with her ki which... is kind of spiritual?
③ Does this character have a personal code of ethics or morals? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?Protect the innocent and fight for what's right! Protect people you care about! That's stuff she picked up from her parents and stuff she decided by seeing things she didn't like. But as a member of the Time Patrol, she has to put that aside sometimes to protect the timeline. Some people have to die, even if they don't deserve to. Her loyalty to the Time Patrol comes first.
④ How does she regard beliefs that differ from her? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?Alien cultures that are different than saiyans are fine! She likes hearing about them and is pretty curious. Evil assholes like Frieza and Demigra are just assholes though... She doesn't like them. But she doesn't get really worked up about it, she'll just beat them up!
⑤ What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational, or does she have a good reason for them? She doesn't really have any. She doesn't look down on people who are physically weak like most saiyans do and she doesn't have any problem with different species. The closest she might get is the hypocrisy of being just fine with mixedbloods, but then getting annoyed when she's mistaken for one.
DAILY LIFE① What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? The life of an elite is pretty comfortable... Tomata works hard but at least she's well paid! She's not rich rich but she's not hurting for cash.
② What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?She was on the lower rung of saiyan society on her home planet, whatever her parents were before she was born. She got by okay. Now she's in the Time Patrol and while she started out as a newbie, she's now an Elite Time Patroller! The only people above her are Trunks and the Supreme Kai of Time herself! It hasn't really changed her personality that much, but she is much more confident and happy now. She's taken to the position of role model and leader pretty well.
③ Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others? It's not quite clear, but there are a bunch of floating islands with skyscrapers on them around central Toki Toki City and I think they're apartment buildings for the people who visit or work there. So Tomata has her own little studio apartment that's pretty comfy. It's mostly a place to sleep and store all her shit. It's very cramped, less because it's small and more because she's a fucking hoarder. She doesn't spend much time there, preferring to hang out outside, even if it's just napping on the roof.
④ Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?Clothes............ The only thing she's good at saving up for it expensive outfits. She also buys food, of course, because saiyan, but she's pretty good at scoring free meals without trying.
⑤ What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?Elite Time Patroller! Basically she fights people Trunks tells her to. Occasionally she has to find Dragonballs. She's very good at it and enjoys it a lot. She can't imagine herself doing anything else and being happy, she had a pretty rough life before Trunks made that wish and now everything is just about perfect.
⑥ What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?Training! If she's not doing Parallel Quests, she's getting people to spar with her or training with whoever her master is. But occasionally even she needs to take a break and she can't spend all her time trying on different clothes so... She likes hanging out in the Time Nest with Trunks, listening to him talk or watching him work on fixing some machine the Supreme Kai of Time broke.
⑦ What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? She's a saiyan, which should say enough... She has a huge appetite and loves to eat whenever she gets the chance! But she's less food obsessed than, say, Goku. She doesn't drink, just because it doesn't interest her. She doesn't like the idea of her senses and balance being messed with because she's drunk.
